DOUG UP ON BOURKE

Monday, November 19, 2012
We made a trip to Doug Up on Bourke the other day ....
it's been a while between visits ....
must say the store was looking better than ever .....

..... I was there to check out cafe chairs, but found so much more,
it was quite a visual overload !!!

SOME LITTLE PURCHASES

Thursday, November 3, 2011
A couple of little purchases I made recently ....
first this vintage copper bowl bought from Doug Up On Bourke
which was meant to be for a friends birthday present ..... but once I got it home I just couldn't part with it, soooooo ......

.... this time I bought two of these gorgeous baskets made of recycled magazines from Paper 2 in Surry Hills ....
one for me and one for her ....
just to be on the safe side !!!

PLANT LOVE

Monday, October 24, 2011
This plant got me all inspired to plant some more succulents on the weekend ....
I like these little ones on the deck the best .....

and they are such low maintenance plants, which I must say I like ....

and kind of teaming with the garden theme ....
when I was in Sydney on Wednesday I called into the Koskela pop up shop and bought a few goodies .... (thanks for the tip Georgina)
I can't remember the last time I have actually bought anything (art and magazines excluded) I've been making a conscious effort not to spend money .... but I just had to have a splurge on these goodies, I'm always a sucker for beautiful wooden brushes  ....

and I couldn't resist these secateurs .... plus Koskela put your goodies in the most divine bags made from recycled newspapers,
always a bonus !!!

But my favorite addition has to be this plant my daughter bought for me, isn't it lovely, and I'm sure it will be much longer lasting than cut flowers in this hot weather .....

I think summer may well and truly be here in our part of the world, not sure how I'm feeling about that !!!

MELBOURNE PART 2

Wednesday, July 13, 2011
Continuing from this post ....
I didn't get to Metropolis bookstore on my last trip, so I made sure it was on top of the list this time.

I love the decor, it reminds me a lot of Ariel Books  in Sydney ....

....  and such the great location on the 3rd floor of Curtin House, I could literally browse for hours ....
(that's my friend purchasing her books)

.... I bought this Tracey Emin book, which should be a good read.

The entry to Curtin House ....

.... and the stairs up to Metropolis, Curtin House is such a wonderful building with such a great history .....
besides Metropolis, there is also Collectors Corner record store, Someday and BĂșl ... there is even a Kung Fu Academy.

I loved exploring the building ....

..... and climbing the stairs to the rooftop, a little chilly this time of year but well worth it for the view ... there were a brave few enjoying the outdoor bar and in summer it hosts markets, live music and a rooftop cinema.
It felt very New York ....

..... I really need to get back in the summer !!!

We also did a bit of browsing through a few other stores in the city, mostly window shopping, unfortunately I didn't make it to Captains of Industry this trip or Comeback Kid
which both come highly recommended by my favorite local.
There really just weren't enough hours in the day.

We did return to Curtin House that evening for a meal and a drink at Cookie, great atmosphere, super adorable waiter and the best Thai food I have had in a long time, my favorite was the Thai sausage with ginger and cucumber, soooo yummy !!!

Then we braved the cold and strolled back to the hotel with a warming drink stop at  Seamstress .....

Seamstress Cocktail Bar

Seamstress Cocktail Bar
.... lots of stairs, but I braved my veritgo and was glad I did (although I don't know how people manage the climb down after a few too many drinks !!!

So after a wonderful Melbourne day and night I hit the pillow one tired but very happy girl !!!

AN AUTUMN DAY OUT

Wednesday, April 13, 2011
I love Autumn days ... (especially after such an extra hot summer here)
My daughter and I spent the day in Surry Hills yesterday ....
starting with a nice stroll ....

then brunch at this little cafe ....

.... banana french toast and coffee (no we're not drinking beers, they use these old Cooopers bottles for the table water)

Walked brunch off with a stroll here for a bit of old wares browsing
loved the little HMV dog ....
(I think I would have bought him home but he was made of very heavy concrete and we were on foot plus we had a bit of a train ride ahead, who knows he might wait for me)

.... and this old trestle table.
(I did a post about Dough Up On Bourke here a while back)

As I went to take a photo of this window I realized it was this house .....
(with some extra pots)

(Maria, I noticed the plants first too !!!)

Met this little cutie outside the grocery shop .....

.... walked past my favorite stairs and tiles in Surry Hills
( I love them !!!) .....

.... and stocked up on bread here.
A nice little day out indeed.
