THE TWO OF US

Sunday, October 21, 2012
So lovely to open the weekend magazine and see two of my favorite people, Morris and Adam of Perkal Bros bootmakers in Surry Hills .....
although I'm not lucky enough to have had anything made by the brothers we have had many a boot, shoe and even bags repaired by them ....
I love ringing the front door bell of their store, waiting for Morris to greet you with a kiss and a hug, and being led into the workshop breathing in the intoxicating smell of leather, shoe polish ....
and history (entering the workshop is like being transported back in time)
Although I knew bits and pieces about the brothers, they were born in Poland, have worked alongside each other in their business for 64 years, are both in their 90's and have never spoken a harsh word to each other, I didn't actually know their "story" .....
so it was wonderful to read this article in Good Weekend magazine ....
such a sad, happy and ultimately beautiful story of two very special brothers ....

.... and their very special store.

A SATURDAY CATCH UP

I finally got to meet up with my lovely friend Greer a couple of Saturdays ago .....

.... such a great afternoon, my only complaint was it wasn't
 long enough !!!

You can see more of our afternoon here  .....
and Greer's cousins loft where she stayed the weekend, truly envy inducing .....
..... and check Greer's website and flickr
.... she really is one very talented lady !!!

MARKET FINDS

Thursday, May 10, 2012
Continuing on from this post here are our market finds
from Saturday ....

two Thonet stools (they still have the stickers underneath) .....

with just the right amount of rustiness and wear and tear .....
and for only $20 each .....
I love them so much !!!

 This very vintage toy dog,
the photo doesn't really do him justice, he has lots of little bald patches and one ear has been mended ....
I plan to give this to my friend who is visiting from Wellow with her new baby boy .....

..... and Meg picked up some cute vintage dresses

...... so we were very happy market goers indeed, think we will have to visit more often !!!

ON THE TRAIL

Monday, May 7, 2012
We had so much fun on Saturday morning doing the Garage Sale Trail with our beautiful friends Georgina and Kenya ....
we chose the Surry Hills / Darlinghurst area, but it is actually a nationwide day ...
Garage Sale Trail looks at making sustainability both fun & social by encouraging individuals and groups to clear out some unwanted clutter, meet their neighbors, grab a bargain and even make some extra money .....
such a great idea and who doesn't love a garage sale !!!

Here's some pics from our morning .....

unfortunately this great old couch already had a sold sign on it ....

Kenya having a little rest in-between sales ......

.... a very nice morning indeed !!!

Hope you had a nice weekend

R.I.P. DASHER

Wednesday, March 28, 2012
Such sad news, Dasher, our favorite Surry Hills dog died
yesterday .....
Dasher was always there, greeting passers-by from the pavement outside his home on Crown Street, we would always stop and give him a cuddle and a pat ....

this was the note left outside of Dashers home yesterday by his beautiful owner Jeanne Marie ....

Jeanne Marie and Dasher

Dasher had been a regular fixture on the streets of Surry Hills for the past decade ....
In February, Jeanne Marie told the Courier that she didn’t understand what all the fuss was about.
“I don’t know what the attraction is, quite frankly, because he’s just an ordinary dog,” she said.
“He loves the attention, he loves people and people love him. He has got many more friends on Facebook than I have.”

These are just some of the flowers and notes left for Dasher ....
and this morning, a box of chalk had been left near Dasher’s chalk outline, which marks the spot outside Ms Thomas’s home where he is usually found, so passers-by can leave their own messages ......

..... Dasher you will be sadly missed by all of us
R.I.P. beautiful boy
